這是什麼? What is the name of these sea creature?

Can anyone tell me the name of this shellfish? In Singapore, we call it Gong Gong, but that is definitely Malay changed into English. And please don't tell me it is called clams, THAT I will not accept, heee... This clam is one of the BEST tasting and best texture shellfish that I have eaten, and my whole family loves it. When Iris came and visited us two months ago, we had it twice as appetizer. Yummmy!

  8. Sophie,

It's a cone which is a gastropod which is a mollusc. There are 2 websites with pictures:

    http://www.gastropods.com/Taxon_pages/Group_Cone.html
    and
    http://microseashell.com/seashell/main/default.htm
The 1st site is easier to navigate.
For the 2nd site, on the left panel, navigate down to Gastropoda and look for Conidae under Neogastropoda. You can click on all the selections on the right panel to view the pix.

Never knew there was so many types.

  9. Hi Sophie!
Got it wrong about it being a cone. Alice was right about it being a snail.. in a way. It's a conch (also under Gastropod). And you will have to keep calling it a Gong Gong :)

Pictures and some description available in the following ChekJawa webpage:
